Friends of Bus 142 formed as a direct response to the outpouring of concern about the future of the bus after its removal from the Stampede Trail. They are dedicated to that global Into the Wild community, with the blessing & support of many well known figures from the book, film & music projects.

Bus 142 preservation is supported by the Arctic Infrastructure Development Center (AIDC) at the Institute of Northern Engineering (INE), which are providing workspace in the ConocoPhillips Alaska High Bay Structural Testing Lab at the Joseph E. Usibelli Engineering Learning and Innovation Building (JUB) on the UAF campus.
