2026 Skiathon: March 1st, 11AM

Skiers at start line

The Skiathon is a historic and beloved classic-only race and tour on the spring Fairbanks ski calendar. The history of the Skiathon dates back to the 1920s and the original route followed the Skarland 12 mile trail that is now the route of an annual group tour with the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks. After a few dormant years, the Skiathon was revived in 2001 by Stan Justice and continues to be a 12 mile / 20 kilometer course, using most of the present day UAF trails, without having to negotiate any of the former routes' road crossings. The event is geared around community, skiing’s rich history locally, and a shared appreciation for the UAF trail system that many Fairbanksans enjoy. And of course, it’s really fun to come spend the first Sunday of March on the UAF trails and support their continued maintenance and grooming.
