Alaska Ocean Acidification Mooring Network
The Alaska Ocean Acidification Mooring Network is a series of locations around Alaska monitoring changes in carbon dioxide and associated parameters. We are currently maintaining surface buoys and other autonomous systems at locations in Southeast Alaska, the Gulf of Alaska, the Bering Sea, and the Arctic Ocean. These moored platforms will give us information about the duration and intensity of ocean acidification events on all of Alaska’s coasts. Funding for the network is provided by the State of Alaska, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Alaska Ocean Observing System (AOOS).
Our surface buoy locations include daily telemetered data which allows us to monitor the environment in near real time. The data transmissions are received by the Pacific Marine Environmental Lab (PMEL) in Seattle and are displayed on the NOAA website:
- Southeast (SE) Alaska in Port Conclusion
- Chiniak Bay near Kodiak, Alaska
- Gulf of Alaska (GAKOA) near Seward, Alaska
- Southeastern Bering Sea (site M2)
