 Abstract:
Fault zones are prominent features of all types of plate margins. I will present an overview of the timing of faulting during the Triassic–Cretaceous formation of the Sierra Nevada igneous arc. Then, I will show how rock fabrics from a ductile shear zone can yield insights into how stress and strain rate vary with temperature and depth. At the end, we'll discuss what such information tells us about the mechanical properties of the lithosphere.
