The Yukon Flats Region is comprised of nine Interior Alaskan communities which lie along the Yukon River and its tributaries. Only two communities, Circle and Central, are connected to the Alaska Highway system. The other seven communities are accessible by airplane and/or boat.  The population of the region is approximately 1,320 people.  Approximately 86% are Alaska Native, predominantly Athabascan.
