Wide Format Scanner

The Contex IQ 4400 can scan large format documents such as maps, seismic profiles, well logs, etc. up to a width of 44 inches. The Nextimage4 software provides a resolution of up to 9600 dpi. Images can be saved in BMP, JPG, PDF, PNG, TIF and other formats.

Only paper documents can be scanned; card board or laminated documents are not suitable. Maps patched with tape have to be inspected first.   Folded maps should be unfolded and if possible flattened for some time prior to scanning. At least one edge of the document should have a straight edge devoid of rips to allow proper loading.

Contact Jochen Mezger directly by phone (474-7809) or better via email ( jemezger@alaska.edu ) and ask or propose a date for scanning. Hours for scanning are generally Mo-Fr 9:30 am – 6 pm. However, depending on Jochen’s current teaching commitment, some time slots are not available.

Don’t forget to bring along a flash drive or external hard drive, depending on size of document and resolution, the resulting file can be pretty large.
