Graduates of the program are qualified to perform general radiological procedures and assist physicians in hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices. Graduates can also receive additional credentials through separate training in magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, ultrasound or other specialty areas.

Program highlights

Students in the program will have the opportunity to complete clinical experience through laboratory work and practicum experience at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, Tanana Valley Clinic, and Bassett Army Hospital on Fort Wainwright. Students will complete approximately 1200 clinical hours during their course of study.

Course content is designed to meet the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) accreditation standards and allows graduates to be able to apply for national certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Other details

Admission to the UAA radiologic technology program is competitive. Applicants must earn a grade of ‘C’ or better for prerequisite courses and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better to be considered.

Applicants are required to complete prerequisite courses prior to the competitive program selection process. Most students are able to complete prerequisite and general degree requirements in one academic year, depending on Mathematics and English placement.

Students must complete the following program prerequisite courses with a grade ‘C’ or better by the program application deadline.

  • Medical Terminology
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology I
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology II

Along with the prerequisite courses, there are 15 credits of general education and AAS degree requirements that must be completed as well as clinical observation time, a completed immunization record and professional CPR certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to applying to the program.

Completion of the admission requirements does not guarantee selection for admission into this program. Students should work closely with an advisor while completing prerequisite coursework and preparing an application for admission to University of Alaska Anchorage.
