Support groups

As we begin the Fall 2023 semester, Student Health & Counseling would like to remind students, staff, and faculty of the various groups we are offering.  Groups and workshops are open to all UA students, regardless of campus location.  Descriptions and registration links are listed below:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skill based workshop that focuses on identifying and changing negative thinking patterns while promoting positive behavior changes. The four modules the workshop will cover are Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance, and Emotion Regulation. This series is available for all UAF students. The workshop will be held virtually on Mondays from noon - 1 p.m. starting on February 19th and ending on April 15th.

Time and place: Mondays via Zoom from noon - 1 p.m.

Take Charge of Your Headspace is a skills based workshop focusing on stress management and coping while being a college student.  This series is available to all students, staff and faculty, regardless of eligibility.  This is a topical workshop series so you can attend one or attend them all, depending on where your interests are.  Workshops will be held virtually Tuesdays from noon-1 p.m. starting on February 6th and ending on April 23rd.

  • Time and place: Tuesdays via Zoom from noon-1 p.m.


ConnectAbility is a peer support group for individuals experiencing disabilities to find strength in community. This series is available to all UAF students, staff, and faculty, regardless of eligibility. Workshops will be held virtually Wednesdays from noon - 1 p.m. starting on February 14th and ending on April 10th.

  • Time and place: Wednesdays via zoom from noon - 1 p.m.

Life after Loss is now open to all UAF students, staff and faculty! We will be running the group in two sections this semester and ask all who register to thoughtfully commit to attending each session of the section you register for.  This enables group members to connect, build trust and a community of support that is so needed as we move through grief. The group will be held virtually Fridays from noon-1 p.m.

  • Session 1 - February 2nd to March 1st (registration open from January 26th - February 1st) 
  • Session 2 - March 8th to April 12th (recitation open from February 26th - March 1st)
