Student Clubs & Organizations
Joining a student club or organizations is a great way to meet new people, network, and explore shared interests. Some even offer opportunities to participate in competitions where you can apply the knowledge you acquired in the classroom to a practical setting.
UAF has over 100 active student organizations to choose from. The following list is a selection of engineering-related clubs and organizations that may be of interest to you.

Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG)
This club is for geological engineering students, geology students interested in engineering
applications, geotechnical engineering students, or any student interested in the
engineering of earth materials, as well as fans of the trade.

Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP)

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
ASME is a not-for-profit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods. Founded in 1880 by a small group of leading industrialists, ASME has grown through the decades to include more than 140,000 members in 151 countries. Thirty-thousand of these members are students.
From college students and early-career engineers to project managers, corporate executives, researchers and academic leaders, ASME's members are as diverse as the engineering community itself. ASME serves this wide-ranging technical community through quality programs in continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations and other forms of outreach.

Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME)

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)
The University of Alaska Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers* is one of the oldest student chapters of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in the world. The University of Alaska chapter is an award-winning student chapter, achieving the gold standard in 2018.
Our mission is to disseminate knowledge of the theory and practice of all aspects of petroleum engineering and the furtherance of the professional development of our members. Some of the many ways we work to support and educate our members are through the promotion of practical application of engineering with trips to conferences, hosting technical presentations from industry professionals, soft skills seminars for employment seeking, and sponsorships of teams and students in competitions such as PetroBowl or Student Paper Contests.
*Note: We are official "The University of Alaska Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers" but on campus, we refer to ourselves as "UAF Society of Petroleum Engineers".
