Hands-on program

Take what you’ve learned in the classroom and practice it in the field through research, internships, student competitions, and field practicums. You could even compete nationally as part of our award-winning Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe teams, which are supported by our student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Associated General Contractors (AGC).

Research Opportunities

You’ll collaborate and receive mentorship from professors who offer expertise in all civil engineering specialties. Our expertise in design and construction in Arctic conditions is the strongest in the nation. You have access to our new state-of-the-art engineering facility.

Multidisciplinary

The Department of Civil, Geological, and Environmental Engineering also houses students seeking M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in Earth System Science with a concentration in hydrology.  The Earth System Science program is administered by a multidisciplinary committee spanning several academic units.
