ACEP Researcher Attends Pearl Creek Elementary STEM Family Night

February 2nd, 2017
Fairbanks, Alaska

ACEP Researcher, Dr. Daisy Huang and the UAF Student Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) hosted an engineering booth during the 2017 STEM Night at Pearl Creek Elementary.

Over 420 people attended the family Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) night, and participated in 29 different activities offered by 12 different UAF departments, numerous state and federal agencies, and private industry.

Dr. Huang and the SWE members led the students in cutting different wind turbine blade designs out of card stock and, when mounted onto generator hubs, tested their designs for power generation. Students learned that different blade shapes and sizes generate varying amounts of power.
