Workshop on alternative and synthetic fuels
A helicopter at the airport in Wales, Alaska, prepares for a takeoff to Diomede. The upcoming ASEC pre-workshop will discuss opportunities, challenges and tradeoffs of various fuels.
Sign up for a free two-day virtual workshop, “Alternative and synthetic fuels for energy and transportation systems,” to take place April 1-2. It is hosted by the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference in partnership with the Alaska Center for Energy and Power. The workshop is free, but registration is required to attend.
The workshop will explore the potential role of alternative and synthetic fuels across energy and transportation systems, with relevance for Alaska’s geography, climate and reliance on fuel-intensive infrastructure.
The session will take a broad view of emerging fuel pathways, spanning aviation, marine and ground transportation as well as stationary energy applications. Given Alaska’s dependence on imported fuels and the critical role of aviation and marine transport, alternative and synthetic fuels raise important questions about energy security, resilience and long-term decarbonization.
This virtual workshop is the final in the Continuing Conversations series leading up to the 2026 Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference in May.
When: 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. AKDT, Wednesday and Thursday, April 1 and 2
Registration here to attend.
