Nuclear waste reprocessing presentation

The Alaska Nuclear Energy Working Group meeting in August will feature a presentation and update from Orano’s Alexander Hoppes. He will discuss Orano’s nuclear waste reprocessing in France, the country with more than a 70% share of nuclear energy in its domestic energy supply portfolio — the highest in the world. Orano provides cradle-to-grave services, from mining to processing, fuel fabrication, recycling and disposal. It recovers 96% of reusable materials in spent fuel, recycles them and manufactures new fuel, dramatically cutting waste.

The Alaska Nuclear Energy Working Group brings together members of the public, researchers and industry stakeholders to investigate advanced nuclear reactor technologies and examine their potential roles, benefits and challenges within the Alaska energy landscape.

Hosted by ACEP, AKNEWG working group meetings occur on the fourth Tuesday of the month and include presentations from researchers, industry leaders and others involved in the nuclear energy sector. There will be time for Q&A and discussion. The working group may also be called upon to provide input on future studies and policy direction. We welcome broad and active participation.
