A graduate program in cross-cultural/Indigenous Studies may be for you if you are interested in issues associated with Indigenous Knowledge Systems, cultural interchange and cross-cultural education. Students will participate in research and development activities across a variety of academic disciplines and applied fields at UAF.

Our Indigenous Studies PhD program is the highest Indigenous Studies degree granting program in the state. Combined with our MA program, we work hard to increase the recognition of Indigenous scholarship across a range of academic disciplines to best serve our students.

MA Indigenous Studies

The Indigenous Studies MA degree program emphasizes Indigenous knowledge systems. The program is designed to provide graduate students from various fields of interest an opportunity to pursue in-depth study of the role and contributions of Indigenous knowledge in the contemporary world. Students are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively with Indigenous people in their studies.

PhD Indigenous Studies

The PhD Indigenous Studies program may be for you if you are interested in issues associated with Indigenous Knowledge Systems, cultural interchange, and cross-cultural education. Students will participate in research and development activities across a variety of academic disciplines and applied fields at UAF.

Candidates are encouraged to engage in comparative studies with other Indigenous peoples around the world and to focus their dissertation research on issues of relevance to Alaska and the Arctic.
