Chickens: Keeping an Interior Alaska small laying flock

July 24, 2012

Marmian Grimes

Join Mara Bacsuijlaky and Stephen Brown for a free lecture at 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 7 in 201 O'Neill as part of Alaska's Land and Sea Lecture Series. The lecture will present low-tech, low-cost but healthy and humane methods for keeping a small laying flock for family fun (and eggs too!).

Bacsuijlaky is a Community Development Agent for the Cooperative Extension Service working primarily in remote rural Alaska. She has raised and maintained a home-laying flock for over eight years in Fairbanks, with many hens living well into their dotage of 10 years (due to her complete inability to cull her chickens).

Alaska’s Land and Sea Lecture Series will be held every Tuesday evening June 5 – August 14 (no lecture on July 3) at 7 p.m. in 201 O’Neill.
