UAF’s campaign kickoff event

The University of Alaska Fairbanks and GCI hosted a virtual event in March 2021 to celebrate the grand opening of the Alaska Esports Center at UAF, featuring tech gear giveaways and a tour of the new space in the Wood Center. We also publicly kicked off our philanthropic campaign at this event by celebrating GCI’s $500,000 commitment to supporting the Alaska Esports Center at UAF. Additional contributors to the Alaska Esports Center include the UAF Alumni Association, UAF College of Business and Security Management, UAF eCampus and UAF chancellor.

The Alaska Esports Center is home to the first esports program of its kind in Alaska and the UAF Alaska esports team. At UAF, we are modernizing the student experience by providing a state-of-the-art esports facility accompanied by a student-focused and learning-driven co-curricular program. With a focus on diversity and inclusion, the Alaska esports program will provide opportunities for UAF students to engage in collaboration, cooperation and competition.

Campaign pillars

At UAF, we’re known for innovative ideas and practical approaches. However, these endeavors are not arbitrary. They’re inspired by a vision for the future and guided by our four campaign pillars and UAF’s six strategic goals

  • Expand the culture of education in Alaska — increase degree attainment, broad access, student success and educational equity.
  • Provide Alaska’s skilled workforce.
  • Grow UA’s world-class research by leading research relevant to Alaska and the Arctic.
  • Contribute to a more diversified economy by expanding Alaska’s knowledge base.

Campaign goal

We aim to raise a total of $200 million UA system-wide during the For Alaska campaign.
