Associate of Arts

Your education
The Associate of Arts degree is a two-year program designed as a stepping stone to a bachelor’s degree program at UAF or another four-year university. The curriculum of the associate of arts program consists of courses that meet UAF general education requirements (GER) plus degree specific electives.
CTC’s student-friendly environment will ensure you have the resources and support to complete your general education courses in communication and math, as well as, classes in the arts, humanities, social and natural sciences.
Our advisors will help you navigate the flexibility built into this program so that you are able to explore areas of interest and complete coursework that can later be applied to a baccalaureate program or used as a minor.
The Associate of Arts is also available in a fully online, accelerated format that can be completed in one year. Eligible Alaska residents can receive discounted tuition with a maximum out of pocket cost of $2,000 per semester.

Your career
Higher education is essential to having a successful career in today’s world, and the Associate of Arts degree is a solid foundation for many career fields. The A.A. degree can serve as a starting point for a career or a stepping stone to a bachelor’s program.
Graduates who transition to a four-year degree program after completing the A.A. will have a well-rounded foundation for completing a bachelor’s degree, and preparing for a successful work life – becoming a scientist, a teacher, an economist, a criminal investigator and much more.
Apart from just preparing you for a career through the bachelor’s degree, the associate degree opens many career doors all by itself. Graduates find good entry level jobs or pursue new careers in the nonprofit, government and business sectors of our economy – social services, the arts, advocacy, education, science, communications, marketing and advertising, retail and much more. Graduates who choose to enter the workforce with an A.A. degree are prepared for entry-level positions, or to pursue a better job, in a wide range of career fields.

Other details
Because the A.A. degree is so flexible and can be used to meet so many educational and career goals, it is essential that you work with an academic advisor while completing your degree.
