Your career

Higher education is essential to having a successful career in today’s world, and the Associate of Arts degree is a solid foundation for many career fields. The A.A. degree can serve as a starting point for a career or a stepping stone to a bachelor’s program.

Graduates who transition to a four-year degree program after completing the A.A. will have a well-rounded foundation for completing a bachelor’s degree, and preparing for a successful work life – becoming a scientist, a teacher, an economist, a criminal investigator and much more.

Apart from just preparing you for a career through the bachelor’s degree, the associate degree opens many career doors all by itself. Graduates find good entry level jobs or pursue new careers in the nonprofit, government and business sectors of our economy – social services, the arts, advocacy, education, science, communications, marketing and advertising, retail and much more. Graduates who choose to enter the workforce with an A.A. degree are prepared for entry-level positions, or to pursue a better job, in a wide range of career fields.

Other details

Because the A.A. degree is so flexible and can be used to meet so many educational and career goals, it is essential that you work with an academic advisor while completing your degree. Your academic advisor will work with you to develop a personalized academic plan that ensures selected courses fulfill individual goals as well as meet A.A. degree requirements. If you plan to go on to a bachelor’s degree, your advisor will also provide you guidance on general education courses required beyond the A.A. degree, as well as courses designated within bachelor’s degree majors and minors.
