MS Degree: Second Year and Beyond

Complete coursework

Complete coursework as determined by your committee.

Hold committee meetings annually

Hold at least one committee meeting per year.

Submit an Annual Report of Advisory Committee Form

Prior to the committee meeting, prepare a 2-page summary of your progress during the year. The summary will be attached to the Graduate Student Advisory Committee Report, written by the graduate committee. This report must be submitted annually by May 15th and must include substantive committee chair comments regarding your academic and research progress. If you are within two years of completion of the degree (this is normally the case for all MS students after the first year), the report must also include a realistic timeline for completion of requirements. Note: If you do not submit an "Graduate Student Advisory Committee Report" form or if progress is considered unsatisfactory, you will be considered "not in good standing" and may not be eligible for Teaching Assistantships (TA), Research Assistantships (RA), Fellowships or Travel Awards. Every effort will be made to assist you in returning to "good standing."

Advance to Candidacy

Upon completion of at least 9 credits of coursework (including those listed as required on the GSP), approval of the GSP, and successful completion of the Comprehensive Exam, you can apply for Advancement to Candidacy (submit form found on the Grad School website). When you apply to graduate, this form is used by the Graduation Department to determine whether you are eligible.  Your eligibility for graduation depends on your attainment of the requirements listed on this form.  The deadline for submitting the form is by the Graduate School's published date during the semester before you graduate.
