Bristol Bay and Aleutian-Pribilof Adult Education Program

Alaska Adult Education (AAE) focuses on foundational academic instruction in reading, writing and math skills.  Adults who want to improve these skills for,
  • employment
  • further education
  • or personal growth

are encouraged to register for our program.  Our staff helps students prepare for the U.S. Citizenship Test, study for the Praxis Exam, increase their Accuplacer, brush up on business writing etiquette, and also offers ELL (English Language Learner) classes.

We conduct intake, orientation, and instruction according to the needs of individual students. Our program has instructors in,

  • Manokotak
  • Dillingham
  • Unalaska

We work with students in villages through remote learning, by telephone, email, or mail to provide access to adult education in places without in-person instructors. We also work with school districts to identify tutors for students in other communities.

ABE staff also offer instruction and coordination for the GED test series.  The General Educational Development Diploma (GED) test series is equivalent to a high school diploma. It consists of four tests:

  • Reasoning Through Language Arts
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Science

This series is also available in Spanish. GED Ready practice tests, study materials, and tutoring are FREE for registered students.

AAE staff additionally provide proctoring for placement exams such as the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).  These exams are required for many vocational and technical training programs.
