Why Military and Veteran Students Choose UAF

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is home to a strong and growing community of military and veteran students. As a military friendly school, we are dedicated to providing academic opportunities and a supportive learning environment that serves the unique needs of active service members, veterans and their families.

Save money on tuition and education costs

We offer resident tuition to qualified military-affiliated students, as well as over 450 scholarship opportunities — some of which are offered specifically for military and veteran students.

In addition to support provided by UAF, you may also qualify for a variety of VA education benefits you can use to help pay for school and training. Our advisors can help you determine which benefits you and your family can use, and how to apply.

Take your degree anywhere

As a service member, or military spouse, you may want to choose a career that allows you to easily relocate. We offer portable degrees you can take anywhere—in fields such as education, management and information technology—as well as programs for students with military backgrounds, including:

Start with a one- or two-year program

Not ready to start on a four-year bachelor’s degree? We offer a wide selection of associate and certificate degree programs that might be a better fit for your needs right now. You can always apply the credits you’ve earned to a four-year degree later. View certificate and associate degree programs at UAF.

Earn your degree online
