Start the Semester Checklist

Placement testing (first semester students only!)

If spring 2023 is your first semester at UAF, you’ll need to take placement tests before you meet with your academic advisor, so they can help you register for the right classes. For writing, you’ll need to take the EdReady placement test and for math, you’ll take the ALEKS placement test. Both tests can be completed at home without a proctor.

Advising appointment with your academic advisor

Your academic advisor is your personal expert resource to help you choose the right classes you need for your degree. Schedule an appointment soon — appointments fill up quickly and the sooner you meet with your advisor, the sooner you can register for classes.

Register for classes

Once you’ve met with your advisor, you’ll be able to register for classes. Register by May 5th to be entered in the Registration Week Parking Pass Givaway!

File the FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the application for federal loans, but did you know it’s also the application for many scholarships? It’s also required to continue receiving scholarships you may already be receiving. The 2023-2024 FAFSA is open now.

Accept your scholarships, check your financial aid status and set up direct deposit

If you’ve already submitted your FAFSA, you can check the status of your financial aid, accept your scholarships and loans, and set up direct deposit for financial aid disbursement through UAOnline, your one-stop shop for managing financial aid and more. Here are some instructions for how to check your financial aid status.

Apply for housing or confirm your housing assignment

Now is the time to apply to live on campus and select a meal plan. Most first-year students are required to live on campus during their first year at UAF. If you’re already living on campus, confirm your spring 2023 housing agreement with the Department of Residence Life and make changes to your meal plan.
