Week’s events: Legacy Lecture, Dr. Zink, arts talk, jazz

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week of June 5-11:

  • On Monday, June 5, the 2023 Legacy Lecture will honor author and historian Mary Ehrlander. Ehrlander is professor emeritus of history and former director of the Arctic and Northern studies program at UAF. She is the author of numerous books and publications, including “Walter Harper, Alaska Native Son.” The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
  • On Tuesday, June 6, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Dr. Anne Zink, Alaska chief medical officer, and Dr. Mishelle Nace, pediatrics specialist, discussing “Improving Alaskans’ Health: Statewide and In Your Neighborhood,” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, June 7, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Da-ka-xeen Mehner, professor of Native art, discussing “An Artist’s Journey” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, June 8, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature the Fairbanks Community Jazz Band at 7 p.m. at UAF’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
