The newly combined Student Job and Research Fair, which took place in the Wood Center Sept. 7 – 8, was a success, organizers report. More than 200 undergraduate and graduate students attended the event and discussed current or future jobs or research opportunities with university representatives.

Forty-five units staffed booths at the fair, including UAF colleges and schools, departments, research institutes and centers, and other units such as OIT, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Diversity, and the Native Alaskan Business Leaders student group. Roger Smith, director of the Geophysical institute, and Michael Krauss, professor of linguistics, emeritus, spoke to students about possible projects.

“This event will only grow in the future as more students hear about it and realize that they can talk to representatives all in one place,” said Jackie Debevec of Career Services, one of the organizers. The combined job and research fair will be an annual event, Debevec said.
