Use the buddy system when you are lifting or moving heavy objects. Using proper lifting techniques or mechanical equipment for assistance in moving objects, will reduce or eliminate muscle strains and injuries.

One fact OSHA points out from a document addressing materials handling, “In 1999, for example, more than 420,000 workplace accidents resulted in back injuries. Bending, followed by twisting and turning, were the more commonly cited movements that caused back injuries.”

EHSRM HazMat section asks everyone to please “watch” your back and “watch our back” to make sure we are all lifting or moving heavy objects correctly.

Safety is the responsibility of everyone at UAF.

When you see something that looks unsafe, say something. Your effort could help prevent a serious injury. You can easily report unsafe conditions 24/7 by using the UAF Unsafe Condition Report.

Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management will respond immediately to your concerns and contact you with the status of our actions to correct the unsafe condition.
