September 21, 2011

The School of Education and the UAF Office of Equal
Opportunity invite the UAF community to participate in either of two half-day workshops on
 Diversifying the Workforce at UAF.

Professor emerita Caroline Sotello Viernes Turner, a nationally recognized scholar who has
published, presented and trained extensively on diversity in high er
education, will lead both
 workshops.

  • The Sept. 27 workshop will focus on administrators’ roles: what administrators can do, even before vacancies are identified, to set a tone and encourage practices that will lead to a more diverse workforce at UAF.

  • The Sept. 28 workshop will focus on specific actions that search committee chairs and members can take to set up and conduct searches that will attract strong pools of diverse applicants. Both sessions will address actions that we can take to help all
new personnel become successful in their roles.

Both workshops are from 8 a.m. – noon. Coffee and continental breakfast will be available at 7:45 a.m.

Turner’s visit to UAF is co-sponsored by the SOE President's Professor for Indigenous Education fund and the UAF Office of Equal Opportunity. Costs are underwritten by a generous grant from BP and Conoco Phillips through the UA Foundation and President Pat Gamble and former President Mark Hamilton.
