Changes coming for PolarExpress cards

December 4, 2011

Marmian Grimes

Starting in December, 2011, and ending in January, 2012, Auxiliary Services will be replacing the existing system which reads university ID cards (PolarExpress cards) with new equipment. The majority of these changes will be completed behind the scenes with minimal impact to ID card users. However, due to the progressive steps of this conversion, there will be some outages in the old system’s service. Staff in the PolarExpress office will advise all affected departments of these outages in advance.

Temporary outages of the card reader system may occur between Dec. 26  – 30. Some readers on campus may not have the capability to process BearBucks and MunchMoney for short periods of time. This will affect card readers in copy machines, vending machines and all other campus-wide point of sales.

If you have any questions about this system conversion, please contact the PolarExpress office at 474-7657.

**Important**  All students, staff, and faculty holding old PolarExpress cards and departmental cards which do not have an ID number displayed on the front of the card need to bring the old cards in to the PolarExpress Office to exchange them for new cards, free of charge. The older cards will not work after Dec. 25, 2011.

The PolarExpress office is in 116 Eielson Building and is open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; Thursday hours extend until 5:30 p.m.

Over the holidays, the office will be open during limited hours on the following days:

Dec. 21 – 23, Jan. 4 – 6: Open 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Dec 26 – 31, Jan. 1 – 3: Closed
