The list of summer construction projects at UAF is much smaller than in previous years but includes substantial work on the combined heat and power plant.

Work on the plant will continue through next summer. The boiler components are expected to arrive in June 2016.

Earlier this month, large trucks delivered approximately 250 loads of concrete to the new site.

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians should watch for periodic truck and heavy equipment traffic and some minor road diversions throughout the summer.

The project overview and schedule are online, and you can check in on the construction via the project webcams.

Utilities main waste line repair

Tanana Loop from the Fine Arts Building to Harwood Hall, including the Yukon Drive intersection, will be closed May 10 to Aug. 10 as the contractor installs a new utilities main waste line and service connections.

The Fine Arts parking lot will close Tuesday, May 10, and reopen Tuesday, May 17. Access to the lot and the Fine Arts loading dock will be from the south on Tanana Loop.

Signs will be posted in various locations to delineate the project and provide detour routing for local traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists should avoid the area if possible. Alternate drop-off locations are recommended for affected summer camps.

Other smaller projects will continue throughout the summer, and notifications about specific impacts to users will be sent via the building list serves and posted on the news site. Construction updates will also show up on the UAF mobile application. Choose the News icon and then select Campus Construction.
