The Kodiak district encompasses an archipelago of numerous islands south of Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula with a total population of about 12,500. At 3,670 square miles, Kodiak Island is the second-largest island in the United States.
The largest town is Kodiak, population 5,500, and is ethnically diverse, with a large Alaska Native Sugpiaq population as well as Asian, Filipino and Hispanic peoples. Other villages and port towns include Akhiok, Karluk, Larsen Bay, Old Harbor, Ouzinki and Port Lions. Commercial fishing is the dominant industry and a large Coast Guard base is located south of the city of Kodiak.
Outreach includes home, health and family development; and 4-H and youth development.
