Bristol Bay Adult Education Program

The Alaska Adult Education (AAE) focuses on improving adult literacy in Reading and Math to further their skills and knowledge to reach the following goal(s):

  • Employment;
  • Training; and/or
  • Postsecondary Education.

The program is open from September to May and provides a wide array of services for all adult students in the region. Some examples are test preparation, computer literacy, and language acquisition for English Language Learners (ELL). Once registered, each individual will take a placement test to help us design and customize a learning plan to fit their individual needs.

Our trained staff are located in the following villages to meet the needs of our students:

  • Dillingham
  • Manokotak

Each registered student will receive support and instructions either in person, or for those who are located in villages without instructors, services are provided by phone/emails/Zoom/postal services across the region. In addition, students are free to reach out to the campus to connect with a remote instructor or tutor at any time.

The AAE program is the regional sponsor of the GED Program. The General Educational Development (GED) program prepares students to take and pass its exams on four core subjects:

  • Reasoning Through Language Arts;
  • Mathematics;
  • Social Studies; and
  • Science.

Students will have to pass all four subjects to demonstrate that they have the knowledge and skills that are equivalent to a high school graduate. Registered students will receive free services and materials with all GED exams paid for by the State of Alaska. GED Exams are also available in Spanish; materials and services are available upon request.

Upon passing all four subjects, students will receive a Diploma of High School Equivalency issued by the State of Alaska. The Diploma of HSE is accepted by all colleges, vocational schools, and employers nationwide.

The AAE Staff are also trained to provide testing services for both DRC and PearsonVue. For adult who seek proctors to take TABE to enter CHAP, AVTEC, or any other PearsonVue sponsors such as Microsoft, Cisco, or State of Alaska, we are here to help you fulfill your training and professional needs.
