Safety Training
All Department of Veterinary Medicine Faculty, Staff, and Students are required to complete General, Laboratory, and assigned IACUC training. General and laboratory training may be either UA Statewide (myUA Dashboard) or UAF-specific requirements (EHS&RM).
Required General Training
all faculty, staff and students
- Department Emergency Action Plan (DEAP) – Annual Renewal
- The Veterinary Medicine DEAP quiz covers Arctic Health Research Building, Murie, and Irving I Annex. Differences between the DEAP documents are highlighted within each document.
- Title IX - Annual renewal
- If you are a student, complete the Student Title IX training accessed through Blackboard. For details, see the frequently asked questions section and the Title IX Guide on the website for the UAF Office of Rights, Compliance and Accountability
- If you are an employee, complete the Employee Title IX training found at myUA.
- If you are an employee and a student, you need to complete both the employee and student Title IX training. Student assistants only need to do the student Title IX training.
- Protection of Minors - Annual renewal for authorized adults (see below)
- An “authorized adult” is someone who works directly with minors (e.g. minors shadowing
or volunteering; camps and programs).
- If you are not an authorized adult (working directly with minors) complete Protecting Children – Shine a Light accessed through the EduRisk Learning Portal. You will need to register at the site to get access to the training module.
- If you are an authorized adult (working directly with minors) complete Protection of Minors – Duty to Report: Mandated Reporter and one additional module based on your role (contact Susan Harry, sharry2@alaska.edu, to determine the second training module). This training is available at myUA in My Community/Learning Library Tier 2 – Position Required Training. Training must be renewed annually and a different 2nd module must be taken each time training is renewed.

- Workplace Harassment Protection (not required if you have completed Anti-Bullying in the Workplace which is no longer available)
- Behavior Based Safety (not required if you have completed both Hazard Communication and Injury and Illness Prevention which is no longer available)
- FERPA – Annual renewal
Each of the above training modules is available at myUA in My Community/Learning Library. Workplace Harassment Protection and Behavior Based Safety are Tier 1 – UA Employee Required Training and FERPA is Tier 2 – Position Required Training.

*These are required by all who work in Veterinary Medicine teaching labs as these chemicals are present and may be in active use in the labs.
Task-Specific Research Lab Training
faculty, staff, and students working in research labs
Required for those who work with the specific hazard in a research laboratory setting – Verify requirements with your faculty mentor
