UAF celebrates Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2021

Date: Oct. 11, 2021
Time: Noon
Location: Online

UAF will host a virtual Indigenous Peoples’ Day event on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, at noon. Everyone is invited to join on the UAF Facebook page. Pearl Brower will provide the keynote address.

This year's theme is "Raising Indigenous Voices” to honor and celebrate the many contributions of Alaska Native peoples to UAF and Alaska in research, the arts, wellness, racial justice, language revitalization, youth in action and other areas. Raising awareness of these important issues activates engagement on issues of diversity, equity, cultural safety and inclusion at UAF.

Keynote speaker Pearl Brower joined the University of Alaska in August 2021 and serves as the senior advisor for Alaska Native success, institutional diversity and student engagement. Prior to joining the university team, she was the president and CEO of Brower Consulting Services, an independent consulting service working in Alaska. In October 2020, Brower left the Iḷisaġvik College, Alaska’s only tribal college, where she had been in administration at the college for 13 years, serving as president for the last eight.
