Student Health and Counseling offers groups, workshops

February 24, 2022

The UAF Student Health and Counseling Center is offering a variety of groups and workshops this spring for students, staff and faculty.

All groups meet over Zoom at this time and are open to all University of Alaska students. Descriptions and registration links are listed below:

Mindful Mondays

Mindful Mondays is an open drop-in group for UA students, staff, and faculty who are interested in learning about and practicing mindfulness. Each week we cover a different topic related to mindfulness and meditation–feel free to join in one class or join them all! Meets Mondays via Zoom from 12-1pm. Registration is closed for this event.

Take Charge of Your Headspace

Take Charge of Your Headspace is a skills-based workshop focusing on stress management and coping while being a college student. This series is available to all students, regardless of eligibility. This is a topical workshop series so you can attend one or attend them all, depending on where your interests are. Workshops will be held virtually Tuesdays from 12-1pm. Registration is closed for this event.

Gender Affirming Support Group

A nonbinary, genderqueer, genderfluid, gender non-conforming, trans-identifying and gender questioning support group. This support group is for currently enrolled UA students (undergraduate and graduate students) and is designed to be a safe and confidential space to talk, explore, support, challenge, and just be present in your gender identity without having to explain, educate, or fear judgment. The group is a place to express yourself at present and to engage with others in the spirit of openness, celebration, and connection. (To preserve the privacy of those who may be stealth, this group is not open to family or allies.) Join us on Thursdays, 1-2 p.m. All meetings will be held via Zoom. Email uaf-sh-cc@alaska.edu for the meeting link and password.

Coping with COVID-19 Support Group

If you have been recently diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19 and are now in isolation, this group is designed to provide connection, support and discussion of ways to stay mentally healthy during this time. Meets Thursdays via Zoom from 12-1 p.m. Registration is closed for this event.

Life After Loss: A Place for Those Who Are Grieving

This is a grief support group open to any student who has experienced loss. We will give grief a voice and share our stories, giving meaning and healing a seat at the table, offering peace, understanding and the experience of feeling deeply known and seen. The group meets Fridays via Zoom from noon-1 p.m. Registration is closed for this event.

Nanook Health and Wellness Wednesday: Body and Mind 101

Nanook Health and Wellness Wednesday workshop is for everyone who would like to enjoy a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Have little energy? Cannot focus on your tasks? Want to eat healthy? Have sleep issues? Don’t like exercise? Or just not feeling right? If this is you, then, Nanook Health and Wellness Wednesday is for you! This workshop will cover both health and wellness (body and mind) information to help you achieve a balanced and healthy lifestyle. The group meets via Zoom on March 23 and April 6 from 1-2:30 p.m. Registration is closed for this event.
