Pesticide applicator training classes scheduled for January, April

A three-day certified pesticide applicator training course is scheduled for Jan. 30-Feb. 1, with a second course planned for April 23-25. Both will be taught by the University Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service via Zoom and are available statewide. Each class will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The state of Alaska requires certification for anyone who purchases, uses or sells restricted-use pesticides. Anyone who acts as a pesticide consultant, engages in the commercial or contract use of pesticides or supervises their use at a public location also must be certified.

A $75 fee includes study materials if they are picked up at a Cooperative Extension office. The fee is $100 for the materials to be mailed to the participant.

Materials are available for pick-up by appointment at Extension offices in Anchorage, Palmer, Soldotna, Fairbanks and Delta Junction. To make an appointment, contact DeShana York at ddyork@alaska.edu in Anchorage; Theresa Isaac in Palmer at tmisaac@alaska.edu; Alicia Glessing in Soldotna at akglessing@alaska.edu; Gooseberry Peter in Fairbanks at gpeter3@alaska.edu; or Eve Karczmarczyk, eekarczmarczyk@alaska.edu in Delta Junction. They will be mailed to individuals in other communities.

Individuals who need materials shipped should register at least two weeks before the start of class to allow adequate time for delivery. Participants are encouraged to become familiar with the materials and required math beforehand.

Register for each course at http://bit.ly/PSEPtraining. The deadline to register for the January class is Jan. 23. Deadline for the April class is April 16. Zoom links will be emailed to registrants for each class.

Accommodation requests related to a disability should be made five business days in advance to Eve Karczmarczyk at 907-895-4215 or eekarczmarczyk@alaska.edu. For more information, contact Karczmarczyk or Phil Kaspari at pnkaspari@alaska.edu.
