Museum to host open annual open house Jan. 24

Children and adults look at and touch specimens in a laboratory room. A large table in the center of the room holds taxidermied mammals, furs, skeletons and skulls, and a tiger skin, caribou antlers and the vertebrae of a large animal are displayed around the room.

The University of Alaska Museum of the North will host its annual open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24.

Visitors can meet staff and researchers, tour the galleries and go behind the scenes in the labs. Hands-on activities will be available for children and families.

Admission is free, thanks to support from Alaska 529, UA’s education savings program.
