Feb. 12-16 is Lab Safety Awareness Week

Feb. 12-16 is Lab Safety Awareness Week, and a particular focus this year is the safe storage of chemicals.

For continued safety of laboratory personnel and the community, always:

  • Store chemicals based on their hazard class and compatibility.
  • Label all bottles (chemicals, mixtures, samples, and wastes) with the full name, a date, and any associated hazards.
  • Review the chemical's SDS for information on storage, hazard information, and proper PPE.

Your department safety coordinator or the Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management office can help answer your questions about chemical storage and other lab safety issues. Find a link to SDSs at our website. For more information, contact Emily Reiter 907-474-6771 or e.reiter@alaska.edu.
