The University of Alaska Fairbanks will celebrate two major construction milestones this week.

On Thursday, Aug. 7, at 4:30 p.m., the campus will break ground on a major upgrade to the UAF combined heat and power plant. The $245 million project will include a new building to house the plant’s new coal and biomass boilers. The event will take place in the parking lot near the current Atkinson Building, off Alumni Drive.

On Friday, Aug. 8, at 1 p.m., the university will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the expanded Wood Center. The 34,000-square-foot expansion will house a new student dining facility, a ground-level coffee shop and renovated Wood Center administration and programming offices. The new dining facility will replace Lola Tilly Commons.
