2012-13 Schedule

Fairbanks, Alaska – Alaska women's swimming head coach Scott Lemley released the program's 2012-13 season schedule today, highlighted by six home dual meets and a trip to the 64th Husky Invitational.

The regular season gets underway with four straight home meets with California Baptist coming to town Oct. 26 and 27, followed by California State University-East Bay on Nov. 9 and 10. The Nanooks wrap up the 2012 portion of the schedule Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 at the 64th annual Husky Invitational in Federal Way, Wash.

“This is an important way for us to start, to not shy away and take on our toughest opponent Baptist,” Lemley said. “We want to see if we're in better shape early on than they are. Cal State East Bay was right behind us conference last year. They're exactly like we were when we started and making great progress. The Husky is an important component of our schedule and it's when we're in the best shape after training the entire fall. Last year we had a great meet and made NCAA cuts.”

UAF opens 2013 with a trip to Canada to take on Simon Fraser and the University of Puget Sound in a tri-meet on Jan. 12 in Burnaby, British Columbia. Two weeks later, SFU travels to Fairbanks to face the 'Nooks on Jan. 25 and 26 in the final dual meets of the regular season.

“Simon Fraser beat us three years ago at home and on the road,” Lemley said. “They're a really good team and they have been going through the process of going from NAIA to NCAA Division II and it's finished, so they're a full-fledged Division II team and will be at nationals this year.”

The Nanooks have two weeks from there to get ready for the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships, which will be held Feb. 13-16 in Long Beach, Calif. The Nanooks took fourth as a team last year and produced the program's first ever NCAA 'A-cut' time in the 800 freestyle relay.

Alaska concludes its year March 6-9 at the 2013 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held in Geneva, Ohio. Last year, five Nanooks qualified for the national meet and the team took 16th place.

Fans can get a first glimpse of this year's team with the annual Blue-Gold Pentathlon, which takes place Oct. 13 at noon at the Patty Center Pool.
