The Alaska women's basketball team picked up where it left off from last night's game as four players scored in double figures en route to an 84-40 victory against Dallas Christian College on Tuesday evening at the Patty Center.

The Nanooks (2-7, 0-1 GNAC) were paced by senior guard Taylor Altenburg (Elko, Nev./Criminal justice), who scored a game-high 13 points to go with nine rebounds. Junior forward Samantha Thornton (Bremerton, Wash./Biology) was also a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.

Junior guards April Fultz (Rialto, Calif./Political science) and Marissa Atoruk (Kiana, Alaska/Business administration) both contributed double-figure points as well with 11 and 10, respectively, and senior forward Jacqueline Lovato (Gunnison, Colo./Business administration) added seven points and eight rebounds in the win.

Alaska shot 45 percent (35-78 FG) for the game while limiting the Crusaders (1-13) to only 19 percent (10-53 FG) shooting, which is a season-best for the Nanooks' defense. The 'Nooks dominated the glass again tonight by a 61-28 count, including 26-10 on the offensive boards.

Alaska also outscored DCC 60-12 in the paint, 37-9 off turnovers and 26-4 in transition. Alaska's reserves also provided over half the team's points with 43.

Dallas Christian was led by Allison McGinnis, who scored a team-best 12 points, while Whitney Williams had 10 points and Jessalyn Flowers produced six points and nine boards.

Alaska surged out to a 13-3 lead less than two and a half minutes into the contest. Leading 17-7 the Nanooks stretched it to 19 at 28-9 with nine minutes to go in the half. Alaska's defense jumped into high gear late in the stanza and closed with 10 in a row to lead 51-21 at the break.

Alaska mimicked last night's run to start the second half again tonight, this time with a 12-0 run to grab a 63-21 lead with 11:13 to go. The Nanooks led by as many as 47 late on their way to their second straight win.

The Nanooks resume Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on Jan. 3, 2013, when they take on nationally-ranked Simon Fraser at 7 p.m. inside the Patty Center.
