Wildfire defensible space workshop offered

A workshop about creating wildfire defensible space around homes will be offered July 16 at the North Pole Fire Department.

The free public workshop will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. and is co-sponsored by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, the Alaska Division of Forestry and the fire department.

Extension forester Glen Holt and North Pole fire Chief Buddy Lane will talk about creating and maintaining a defensible space to help survive wildfire. They also will show the best tools to use to create defensible space. The workshop will include a short video, slides and a discussion.
