Week's events: Shumaker interview, pain therapy, F-35s, jazz

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and other events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week ahead:

• On Monday, July 30, the Down Memory Lane interview series will include a discussion with Peggy Shumaker, UAF professor of English emeritus. Veteran journalist Robert Hannon will conduct the interview, which will be at 7 p.m. at the Elvey Building auditorium.
• On Tuesday, July 31, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature physical therapist Denise Jerome on “Dry Needling: Effective Treatment for Muscle Pain.” The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.
• On Wednesday, Aug. 1, the Discover Alaska lecture series will present Kevin Blanchard, director of the 354th Fighter Wing F-35 Program Integration Office, offering an update on Eielson Air Force Base and the F-35s. The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.
• On Thursday, Aug. 2, the Music in the Garden concert series will host the Fairbanks Community Jazz Band. Music begins at 7 p.m. in the Georgeson Botanical Garden.
