Week's events: Karen Parr, skin health, blanket toss, O Tallulah

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting nearly 50 free lectures, concerts and other events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week ahead:


  • On Monday, June 5, the 2017 UAF Legacy Lecture will feature An Evening with Karen Parr. A 1966 graduate of the University of Alaska, Parr served as a longtime teacher, three-term member of the Fairbanks North Star Borough assembly and as the driving force behind Raven Landing, a residence and community center for Fairbanks seniors. The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.

  • On Tuesday, June 6, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature dermatologist Dr. Brooke Walls discussing “Skin cancer: The complete story.” The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.

  • On Wednesday, June 7, the Discover Alaska lecture series will present John Monahan, director of UAF Upward Bound, on “The modern blanket toss.” The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.

  • On Thursday, June 8, the Music in the Garden concert series will host O Tallulah. This family trio of local singer-songwriters performs classic country, folk and gospel. Music begins at 7 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.
