Arctic Interchange, Fairbanks — May 8-11, 2017
Fairbanks sits at the heart of America’s Arctic, a critical nexus of outstanding university research and science, indigenous leadership, economic development and innovative policy. Arctic Interchange activities include:

  • International Arctic Assembly — Facilitated discussions between policy, business and academic leaders about the goals of the Arctic Council — sustainable development and environmental protection.

  • Arctic Council Showcase — A review of accomplishments during the past two years in which the U.S. led the Arctic Council.

  • The Arctic Broadband Forum — Two-day workshop bringing together educators, researchers and industry from across the World to discuss the challenges, successes and potential of telecommunications and broadband deployment in the Arctic.

  • Mayors Arctic Roundtable — A group of mayors discussing priorities, challenges and opportunities, including circumpolar cooperation between local governments.

  • Taking Flight — A reception to celebrate the success of the U.S. chairmanship of the Arctic Council and toast Finland, the incoming chair.

North by North, Anchorage, May 11-14

Events in Anchorage will explore Arctic innovation, resilience and sustainability. Events are driven by local and public participation spanning the circumpolar North. They include:

  • Innovation Summit — TED-style talks that highlight technology and process innovation related to cold climate design and construction, renewable energy, food systems, tourism and much more.

  • Arctic Film Festival and Dance Party — Short films and DJs from each Arctic nation sharing approaches to community livability and musical expression.

  • Arts, Crafts and Culture Expo — Arctic artists and craftspeople selling, sharing and exchanging during a two-day cultural celebration.

  • Local Foods and Northern Breweries Tasting - Building international cooperation through great cuisine and, well, beer.
