Volunteers needed for Kids2College

February 25, 2014

Cornerstone

Hundreds of elementary school students are learning about the university through the Kids2College program this spring,  and the UAF Financial Aid Office needs volunteers to help.

Five hundred elementary school kids from the Fairbanks and Tok areas are learning about career fields, the variety of colleges available and how to save to pay for their educations.

On April 23, fifth- and sixth-graders will take a field trip to UAF to experience a day in the life of a college student. They will take three hands-on sessions taught by faculty and staff volunteers, receive a tour of campus and have lunch in the commons. Volunteers are needed to teach the sessions. In past years, sessions have varied from foreign language to dissections to facility tours.

The Financial Aid Office also needs volunteers from various fields to visit classrooms for career days. These are scheduled for April 8 (Tok/Tanacross area and Immaculate Conception School), April 9 (Anne Wien Elementary), April 10 (Hunter Elementary) and April 15 (Denali Elementary).

The Financial Aid Office is a sponsor of the Kids2College Program.
