The Alaska Nanooks women's volleyball team kicks off the season with its inaugural Spike Fest Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Patty Center.

“We take great pride in the relationships we gain in our community and this is a fun event to get to know each other before the season is underway,” assistant coach Mallory Larranaga said.

Tickets to the event are $15 each and admission includes a spaghetti dinner. Kids 12 and under eat free and 2012-13 Spike Club members are also admitted free of charge. Fans can also renew or register for Spike Club memberships at the door.

Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to meet the team and coaches and have the chance to win prizes, which includes a cash raffle to win a travel package to see the Nanooks compete on the road.

There will be an area with games, coloring activites and autographs for kids, as well as a paper airplane raffle for kids 12 and under.

“Our Fairbanks fans mean so much to us and we look forward to great food, great friends and great memories at Spike Fest next Friday,” Larranga said.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner being served at 6 p.m. Don't miss out on this opportunity to bring in the 2012 season with your volleyball Nanooks.
