Head coach Mallory Larranaga announced the UAF volleyball team has added size at the setter position as it signed high school senior Katelyn Camp (Newton, Iowa) to a National Letter of Intent and she will have four years of athletic eligibility upon enrolling in the fall.

headshot_1_CampHS Camp, a 6-foot-1 setter from the Midwest, was a four-year letter winner at Newton High School in Iowa. She was a Second Team All-Little Hawkeye Conference and Honorable Mention All-District selection as a senior while also being honored as a Honorable Mention All-Conference pick as a junior. A three-year captain for the Cardinals, she ranked in the top 10 for setters in Iowa's Class 4A. This past season, Camp accrued 715 assists (7.22 per set), 114 digs, 97 kills, 40 blocks and had a 93-percent serve efficiency.

She also participated in club volleyball since 2009 as a three-year captain for the Iowa Powerhouse Volleyball Association while also being a team member for the Newton AAU team 2009-10. A tri-sport athlete at NHS, she also played four years of both basketball and tennis in high school. She was a forward for the Cardinals' girls basketball team and was the top singles and doubles player for the tennis team. Academically, Camp has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2011.

"Katelyn was able to come in and practice with us and it was really nice to get feedback from our current student-athletes," Larranaga said. "It matters a lot to me what they think about the people our incoming athletes are and the character she offers our team and the teammate she is is very important to me, especially in a setter's role. She complements the team very well, she's long and lean and has good structure at 6-1 and really is a hard worker."

Larranaga continued, "Camp adds a lot of height to our front row but she's also a very technical blocker, which I really like. She gets the game; she's an intelligent setter."

Camp joins an incoming class consisting of middle blocker Cassidy Brewer (East Wenatchee, Wash./Eastmont), defensive specialist Tessa Butterfield (Grass Valley, Calif./San Diego City College), outside hitter Maddie Davis (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup), setter Janelle Feller (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) and middle blocker Lilah Hudson (Seattle, Wash./Kennedy Catholic).
