URSA supports, develops and institutionalizes UAF's diverse and robust programs of undergraduate research and creative scholarship. At all levels, URSA aims to improve skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving and communication and to engender a culture of life-long learning among all students. Undergraduate research at UAF covers a broad spectrum of disciplines, from climate science to music, engineering to anthropology, and life sciences to theater.

Five times each year, URSA awards funding to undergraduates to support research projects as well as travel to conferences to present their work. Faculty members receive funding to support development and implementation of undergraduate research opportunities. In 2014, URSA awarded nearly $300,000.

URSA also hosts monthly Research Showcase events to share research conducted by UAF faculty. In April of each year, URSA hosts Research Day to celebrate undergraduate research at UAF with a day of poster presentations and awards.
