The University of Alaska Fairbanks will hold a First Friday event to showcase photos taken by students during summer field courses taught by Richard Murphy.

The event will start at 6 p.m., Nov. 7,  in 216 Eielson Building, the UAF Summer Sessions offices.

Murphy served as the 2013-2014 Snedden chair at the UAF Journalism Department. While he was photo editor at the Anchorage Daily News, the newspaper won the 1989 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.

This past summer, Summer Sessions offered three field courses with Murphy for enthusiasts who wanted to experience the Alaska outdoors while learning photographic techniques.

During the field trips, students had the opportunity to travel to Gates of the Artic National Park, Denali National Park and Fairbanks at large. Summer Sessions partnered with the National Park Service to make these courses possible. All students were asked to submit two photos to be included in the showcase.
