UAF shines at 2014 Heart Walk

Two-hundred eighteen UAF employees, students and supporters signed up to walk in the 2014 American Heart Association Heart Walk and raised more than $36,000 for the campaign to reduce heart disease and stroke.

About 3,000 community members turned out for the May 17 event May, according to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.

UAF walkers wore T-shirts sporting the slogan "UAF Has Heart" and a polar bear design by College of Liberal Arts Dean Todd Sherman. The UAF Geophysical Institute's GeeWiz team alone raised more than $12,000.

Among single organizations, only Fairbanks Memorial Hospital topped UAF in contributions.
