The University of Alaska Fairbanks Police Department on Saturday, Dec. 8 responded to what appears to be a suicide at the Rasmuson Library on the UAF campus.

Around 1 p.m., police received a report of a person who appeared to be sleeping in one of the study rooms on the fifth floor of the library. When officers arrived they found a man there who had a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel later pronounced the man dead at the scene. The man’s name is not being released, pending the notification of his next-of-kin. He was not a current university student or employee.

A counselor from the UAF Health and Counseling Center responded to the library to meet with patrons and staff members who were nearby during the incident.
