Elizabeth Siddon, a graduate of the UAF College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, has received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. The award is the highest given to scientists and engineers by the U.S. government.

Siddon received two UAF fisheries degrees — a master's in 2005 and a doctorate in 2013. She is a fisheries research biologist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Alaska Fisheries Science Center in Juneau. She co-founded SouthEast Exchange, a partnership between professionals and the Juneau School District that brings place-based science into classrooms.
